The San Diego Sheriff's Department has apparently turned over all the info it has about Merriman's arrest late Saturday night to the San Diego District Attorney's office, which will soon advise on whether Merriman should be charged or not, according to the Associated Press.Merriman is in a war of words with former girlfriend Tila Tequila about just what the heck he was doing when he supposedly choked Tequila and threw her to the ground on Saturday night when she was trying to leave his house. Merriman is saying he "in no way caused any harm" to Tequila, who was checked over by paramedics on the scene. Tequila, of course, says otherwise. But the word is that if Merriman gets charged a
t all, the league is ready to suspend him for four games.
Source: ESPN/Associated PressAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13053057504109811483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-50521295444208077632009-09-10T13:59:00.002-05:002009-09-10T14:00:48.138-05:00Roethlisberger accuser wants full list of his sex partners

The other day, the lawyers for the woman who is accusing Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger(notes) of sexual assault told the world that it was willing to settle the case if Roethlisberger gave her a public apology and took back all the names he and his lawyers have called her.
Now word is coming out that the lawyers also asked for a full list of all of the sexual partners Roethlisberger has had, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. However, leg injuries have slowed both and the team is taking no chances with their health, according to the Dallas Morning News.

According to the Morning News, a hamstring injury has kept Austin out of the last three weeks of practice. Austin's return to the field, as well as that of fellow wide receiver Sam Hurd, who has a quadriceps injury, will come inside the Alamodome when training camp starts July 29. Hurd said he is 100 percent and the team wants to keep him fresh for training camp. He made an exception this week, though, and if you are searching for a pulse on this team, hoping for a little entertainment before the season expires, it's at least good to know the coach is as mad as the fans are. "I guess he felt his normal mild-mannered self wasn't working," linebacker Omar Gaither said. "With Coach Reid, when the volume goes up and he starts turning red, you start paying a little more attention."Reid lit into the team Wednesday at the morning meeting and let everyone know that not only was the season on the line, there were jobs on the line. Unspoken, of course, is that his will eventually be one of them if this sort of play keeps up. Long before he goes, however, a whole lot of players who disappoint him will find the door.Reid's address to the team was followed quickly by a players-only meeting called by safety Brian Dawkins, who is the team leader by default, even though his place on the field isn't as dominant as it once was."Hopefully, everything
got through," said Dawkins, who has been around too long to think meetings are a silver bullet. "We'll see. Talking only goes so far."
Source: Philly.comAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13053057504109811483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-85424944231385189582008-11-22T22:40:00.002-06:002008-11-22T22:42:29.489-06:00NFL Rumors : Belichick throws red flag on instant replay angles

Bill Belichick's talked Friday about the number of angles provided by instant-replay cameras. The New England Patriots coach was angling for better coverage, enabling the decision-makers on the field to make a better determination of whether to challenge a play. "Well, that is the whole issue with instant replay," Belichick said. "When you challenge a play, you have no way of knowing what the camera angles are. That's why I said, going all the way back to the Denver game in 2005, if we at least had a camera placed like in tennis, on the goal line, the end line, and on the sideline so you have six cameras [and] you know that [if] the play involved any one of those positions, you at least have a camera angle on it, so you know what you are challenging."Belichick said he understood the play "that happens out in the middle of the field" to determine placement or possession of the ball often can be "the luck of the draw.""But a play that was on the goal line like [Benjamin] Watson's play with Champ Bailey [in the 2005 playoffs] was, or a play that was on the sideline, you don't know for sure that you have an angle on that," he said. "You think you would but you don't know, and that is what happened in the Denver game [when Bailey was ruled down at the Patriots' 1, although Watson had separated him from the ball, which went through the end zone]. All the cameras are down at the other end and they didn't have a good angle on it, supposedly."So I don't understand why we can't put six cameras in every stadium and just say, 'OK, here is where they are,' whether the game's a division championship game with 25 cameras [covering] it or whether it is a regular-season game with how
ever many they have on that [game]."
Source: Boston.comAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13053057504109811483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-5835200392569664162008-11-14T03:22:00.002-06:002008-11-22T22:49:47.767-06:00Bears' Orton practiced like a starting quarterback

Chicago Bears quarterback had his sprained right ankle wrapped, but he prepared during Wednesday's practice like a starting quarterback.I'm preparing like I am [playing]," Orton said. Reports indicate that Colorado Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd might just package Huston Street in a follow-up deal. There are plenty of teams in the market for a closer — foremost among them the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Mets and the Cleveland Indians — all teams which had called him about Brian Fuentes prior to the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. Or, Monday's conditional deal may have been the first step in a transition for the 2007 NL champs, as they move to a greater emphasis on pitching. Coors Field may seem an unlikely place for that, but Clint Hurdle's club ended the 2008 season with a solid top-of-the-rotation (Ubaldo Jimenez and Aaron Cook combined for 28 wins and a sub-4.00 ERA). Greg Smith adds another 200-inning arm, and the Rockies expect to add more frontline pitching in an eventual trade of third baseman Garrett Atkins. The Angels, Phillies, Indians and Dodgers are all eager for a third baseman. Or Street could be a keeper, in a bullpen needing to replace Fuentes' 30 saves.

Source: MLB.comAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13053057504109811483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-62760980232529124302008-06-21T20:39:00.001-05:002008-11-14T03:28:15.629-06:00Bears Re-Sign HarrisTommie Harris says the talks that led to his four-year, $40 million contract with the Chicago Bears were businesslike and “classy.” Speaking at a morning news conference at Halas Hall, the defensive tackle said he and Bears management kept negotiations private in reaching a deal that will keep him with Chicago through 2012. That differs from what has happened between the team and linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. They’ve both gone public with complaints and either hinted or threatened holdouts. “We didn’t try to go out there and talk about one another or dispute different things, and I feel like we did it all in-house,” Harris said. “I would never go out and talk about the Bears in front of the media or disrespect my team,” added Harris, whose deal was the richest ever for the Bears in terms of dollars per year.
Harris started 56 of his 60 career NFL games and recorded 208 tackles during his four seasons with the Bears. The three-time Pro Bowler had 13 total sacks over the last two seasons—ranking him second among defensive tackles.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-41566008790710814242008-06-17T11:20:00.003-05:002008-11-14T03:29:03.341-06:00Walker Robbed, Beaten Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker could be released from the hospital Tuesday, a day after he was beaten, robbed and left unconscious on a Las Vegas street after a night of partying, police said. A large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from Walker, who suffered “significant injuries,” police said. Police Lt. Clinton Nichols said detectives are retracing Walker’s activities in the hours before he was found injured Monday morning on a street off the Las Vegas Strip. “That’s one of the first things we do, backtrack what he did and where he stayed,” Nichols said, adding that the investigation was still in the early stages. “We knew there was a large amount of cash taken, and some jewelry.” Nichols said he believed Walker would be released after a 24-hour stay at the hospital. A hospital spokesman said he had no immediate information about Walker’s condition. A Raiders spokesman said the team was in the process of gathering information and had no further comment. On Monday, police Officer Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with “significant injuries” and was in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Walker, 29, signed a six-year, $55 million deal with the Raiders after being released by the Denver Broncos in February.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-75861374538584454552008-06-11T13:49:00.003-05:002008-11-14T03:29:25.352-06:00Giant Mix Up? Star wide receiver Plaxico Burress is refusing to practice because the New York Giants haven't renegotiated a new contract since winning the Super Bowl. Burress reported to Giants Stadium for the mandatory minicamp Wednesday. But he says he told the coaching staff he won't work out without a new deal. Burress, who battled through an injury-hampered season last year, caught the game-winning touchdown in the Giants' stunning 17-14 victory over the undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, tight end Jeremy Shockey showed up for minicamp Wednesday, despite hints he had made last weekend with the New York media that he might skip it. Shockey, who isn't expected to participate in drills, headed for treatment with Giants trainers for the broken leg he suffered last season. Benson played in 35 regular season games for the Bears over the past three seasons with 12 starts. He was originally acquired in the first round of the 2005 draft. “Cedric displayed a pattern of behavior we will not tolerate,” General Manager Jerry Angelo said. “As I said this past weekend, you have to protect your job. Everyone in this organization is held accountable for their actions. When individual priorities overshadow team goals, we suffer the consequences as a team. Those who fail to understand the importance of ‘team’ will not play for the Chicago Bears.” Where he might land is questionable... character is playing a much larger role for teams today. But Benson does have to go through Roger Goodell first. More to come...

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-55199615719959536382008-06-09T11:33:00.003-05:002008-11-14T03:29:49.462-06:00Strahan To Retire Michael Strahan has decided to go out on top. It's been reported that Strahan has decided to retire after 15 seasons in the NFL, with a total of 141.5 sacks, and an NFL record 22.5 sacks in 2001. Strahan will be eligible for the hall of fame in five years, and looks like he'll make it in. Last season, Strahan helped the Giants achieve a superbowl season with nine sacks, and playing in all 16 games. The major networks have already started to talk to Strahan about broadcasting, which is a likely landing spot for him. Though he could have waited until the start of camp, Strahan decided this was the time to make his decision public. Though many of the Giants' players expected Strahan to retire, they will have to start adjusting to a locker room without him starting this week at their minicamp, which starts Wednesday.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458417380843307743.post-21524173664838810162008-06-07T22:17:00.002-05:002008-06-07T22:20:59.021-05:00Two Already Troubled Players Get More Trouble
Cedric Benson’s rocky relationship with the Chicago Bears got murkier Saturday after the running back’s arrest on a drunken driving charge in Austin, Texas, his second arrest in little more than a month. The best part: Owens will not be playing out the final year of his contract, eliminating a potentially explosive topic from a team that needs its attention on ending an 11-season drought without a playoff win. Taylor is expected to to tell the media what his agent has been saying all along -- that he would like to be traded by the Dolphins to a contender. The Dolphins, who are upset that Taylor spent the offseason on the TV show "Dancing With the Stars" rather than in South Florida working out with teammates, weren't planning to have Taylor on hand when they hold a mandatory minicamp June 6-8. "I'm under contract with the Dolphins," Taylor told The Associated Press Wednesday after playing in a pro-am for the Principal Charity Classic, a Champions Tour event in Iowa. "...Football doesn't start until July and training camp, so I'll be all right. I've been in L.A. and so far removed from it. Like I said, I'll deal with that when I get there." Taylor returned home to South Florida to host his own charity golf tournament Sunday and Monday. He had been in California fielding acting offers after finishing the reality show. Miami coach Tony Sparano said last week that Taylor isn't expected to take part in any team activities through training camp. Update: Taylor gave the conference to say that he has NOT demanded a trade from the Dolphins, and he says that he will play at least one more year. He did not rule out the possibility of a pre-season trade.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
